Welcome, fellow adventurers, to the wild woods of Northeast Minnesota. Nestled amidst the pristine lakes, dense forests, and rugged landscapes, this is a place where every inhale feels like a rejuvenating elixir—a true breath of fresh air. The most common response from new visitors is, “Wow, the air is so crisp and fresh up here!” And while I agree, here are my favorite adventures in Northeast Minnesota.
Paddle into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW):
From Ely to Grand Marais, explore the numerous wilderness lakes in between. Brimming with fish, wildlife, and awe inspiring views you will discover adventures you will never forget. Often overlooked by Voyagers National Park, the BWCAW is the preferred wildnerness by the locals. Drop a canoe and paddle for miles.

Explore the North Shore of Lake Superior:
Embark on an unforgettable journey along the iconic North Shore, stretching from the vibrant city of Duluth to the enchanting landscapes that lead to Thunder Bay. Traverse the scenic highway 61 that hugs the shores of Lake Superior, providing awe-inspiring views at every turn. Grab a coffee, wine, or beer and strole through towns like Two Harbors or Grand Marais. Discover why Lake Superior is the grandest lake in the world!

Hike a Scenic Trail:
Northeast Minnesota boasts of some of the best hiking trails in the Midwest. Explore the many cascading waterfalls emptying into Lake Superior or scale the Sawtooth Mountains for some of the most breath taking scenic overlooks. Two of my favorite trails are the High Falls Trail at Tettegouche State Park and the Bass Lake Trail in Ely, Minnesota.

Enjoy the Lake:
A famous saying in Minnesota is, “My favorite lake is the one I’m on.” There is so much truth since each lake is unique and beautiful in its own way and there are thousands to chose from in Northeast Minnesota. But since I’ve spent time on many of these lakes, I’d say my favorite outside the BWCAW are Lake Vermillion, Burntside Lake, White Iron Lake, and Shagawa Lake in no particular order. Each of these lakes are very accessible and great for water sports and fishing. There is nothing better than a beautiful day on the lake.
